A notification by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to acquire land for widening of road at Corlim has sent the locals in a tizzy, as many of them fear that their compound walls and houses are going to be demolished.
The notification was published on Thursday and the locals have been given a time of 21 days to file their objections to the Special Land Acquisition Officer, National Highways, Altinho.
After coming to know of the notification, some locals met and held discussions to chalk out a future course of action.
“We have been opposing the project since the beginning when it was proposed during Digambar Kamat's rule as chief minister. The issue then cropped up during the tenure of Laxmikant Parsekar as CM. The issue, though, has been on the backburner for the past six years and we were taken by surprise over the notification,” a local added and stated that they are going to oppose the same as they had done in the past.
