Whether cyclone Tauktae will kiss the 105-km long Goa’s coastline or not is yet to be known but rough sea condition on Saturday noon created a little flutter during the high tide in Baga as rising water dragged some canoes parked along the Baga creek.
As seawater made its way high up on the seashore, several canoes parked along the creek tossed and turned and were being dragged into the water by the strong waves.
The incident happened at around 12 noon during the high tide.
“Initially, there was a little panic as the fishing canoes were being dragged into the water. The presence of some youngsters saved the day as they all rushed into the water and brought the canoes to safety. Several canoes could have either submerged or broken with the way they were being tossed and turned in the water,” said John Lobo, a resident of Baga and Secretary of the Shack Owners Association.
He said soon after the tide went down things came back to normal and calm was restored along the Baga coast.
“Most of the shacks on the beach have either been removed or shut down due to the curfew and end of tourism season. We don’t foresee any possible danger or major destruction due to the cyclone,” Lobo said.
He said the fishermen have already been warned about the rough sea condition and have taken necessary precautions.
