VALPOI
Angry villagers of Honda village in Saleli-Sattari have directed their ire over restart of illegal sale of liquor in their village. In fact, the illegal sale of alcohol was put to a stop last year after an agitation by the locals protesting the nuisance created by tourists under the influence of liquor much to the discomfort of the vaillagers.

Unfortunately, the illegal business has once again started much to the annoyance of the villagers, especially the women who were in the forefront of the agitation against the illegal trade last year. They have expressed their anger over restart of illegal liquor trade and have demanded that the Excise Department take strict action against those involved in it. If not, the villagers will stage a morcha to the office of the Excise Department in Valpoi, they threatened.

Last year following the agitation by the villagers on account of the disturbance to peace and traquility of the village by inebriated tourists and others, the Excise Department had conducted raids and booked many involved in the illicit trade. The trade was finally stopped for nearly 8 months but seems to have surfaced once again.

Speaking to The Goan, a group villagers said people under the influence of liquor are primarily responsible for shattering the peace of the village and that the illegal wine business needs to stop once again.

"Now the situation is very much out of control and we have strongly demanded with the Excise Department to stop the illegal business in the village, or else there will be no option other than staging morcha to the Excise Department office," said a villger.
