VASCO
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar was on Thursday unanimously elected president of Murgao Nagrik Shigmotsav Samiti (MNSS) for a second consecutive year.
Salkar was elected at a meeting in the Ravindra Bhavan which was presided over by Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borker.
Borker announced Salkar as the MNSS president after a majority of the members demanded that Salkar be made the president on account of a grand Shigmotsav in Vasco during his previous tenure last year.
Borker also announced the names of the vice presidents, treasurers and other posts of the new committee as per the proposals made by the MNSS members.
Later speaking to reporters, Salkar said there was unity among all MNSS members even though there was some queries during the statement of accounts.
Salkar said in the event of the Code of Conduct considering the upcoming LS elections, the MMC would take over the committee.
"I will be entrusted with different responsibilities during the Lok Sabha elections and I don't want it to affect the Shigmotsav in Vasco. In case of the code of conduct, the MMC will take over the committee but I have faith that all members of our MNSS committee will work hard to ensure that we have a bigger and better Shigmotsav celebration this year,” said Salkar.
