The Sancoale panchayat has decided to support the MPDA in efforts to challenge the Naval NOC clause for houses in the 4-km radius of the airport before the Supreme Court.
Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar said several files for construction of houses have been pending for as long as two years.
“The Navy have themselves built multi-storeyed buildings in the vicinity of the airport but are harassing the locals who would approach the Navy for NOC. The Navy must demolish its own buildings before applying rules to other houses in the area,” said Borker.
“The Sancoale Panchayat will support the MPDA in going to Supreme Court against Navy’s NOC. If need be, the panchayat is willing to be a party in SC or even approach SC independently against the Navy’s NOC pre-condition,” he added.
Another panch member, Adv Arish Kadar, said the Navy must provide clarity and offer a zone plan so that people are aware of the area and the height restrictions.
“We will take up the issue with Union Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik so that he can intervene and also help panchayat expedite issuance of construction licences to people who had begun blaming the panchayat for the delay,” said Kadar.
