Sancoale Sarpanch Girish Pillai said two long-pending works worth over Rs 10 lakh were launched in Zorint through panchayat funds.
"These works on improving of roads and a drainage along with pavers have been a long-pending demand and the works have been finally launched. We have taken up works worth Rs 1.5 crore in this area and we had also proposed a lot of works here, but they will not be possible with the code of conduct to come into force shortly,” said Pillai while speaking to reporters.
“These roads leading to a holy Dargah in the area were always flooded and hence, they have been taken first. We have also taken up road and drainage work in another location where people faced inconveniences due to the road,” he added.
When asked if he would stand for the forthcoming panchayat elections, Pillai said: “If people want me to contest from this ward I will definitely go ahead.”
“There are many people and panch members approaching me to float a panel for the upcoming panchayat elections, but I have told them to wait till elections are announced and we can take a joint call on this.”
