Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai gave a three-day ultimatum to the farming community who claim to have farmlands at the proposed IIT site at Cotarli village.
“Notwithstanding what documentation the farmers have, I will use my best influence to get handsome compensation to the farmers who claim will be affected by the proposed IIT project,” assured Phaldessai.
Phaldessai informed that the claims need to be submitted to him personally before August 1 and added that no claims whatsoever will be accepted thereafter.
Phaldessai, however, added that the farmers will have to give an undertaking that they will not oppose the project and are willing to get their claim settled by the government.
“The government should not be put under pressure of deploying police force every time they tend to visit the proposed IIT site for any operations.”
“If the alleged affected farmers are ready to come for settlement, we will accept them with open arms but subject to conditions that they will have to give their claim in writing with an undertaking that they will not oppose the project,” said the Sanguem MLA.
