OLD GOA
The Santa Cruz panchayat authorities on Saturday inspected an open space after locals complained of an encroachment.

A large number of locals remained present for the inspection as they demanded that the panchayat should initiate action and clear the open space of encroachments so that the same could be used for developing facilities for the benefits of the residents.

Panchayat Secretary Mahesh Naik along with his staff took measurements of the encroachment and recorded the panchanama. Speaking to reporters, one of the complainants Dilip Shirodkar informed that the area was reserved as an open space by the landlord which, however, has been encroached upon with the construction of a shed, a septic tank and soakpit.

“We want to use the area for developing recreational facilities for the residents,” Shirodkar stated.

Local panch Rosy Fernandes said that she will ensure that the encroachment is cleared off. Deputy sarpanch Domnic Pereira said the panchayat has initiated action after receiving complaints from the locals over the encroachment.

“The panchayat is going to follow the legal procedure to ensure that the issue reaches its logical conclusion,” he stated.

When questioned about encroachments in other open spaces as well, Pereira said that the panchayat will initiate action against all such violations if complaint is made with the panchayat. Sarpanch Jeniffer Oliveira was also present for the inspection.
