Sena leader wades into phone-tapping controversy

PANAJI

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, who was active in the Goa electoral arena, has also added fuel to the fire lit by the Congress with allegations that its leaders' phones were being illegally tapped by the government using a private agency.

Raut who took to Twitter to air his views sought to draw a parallel between the Goa tapping allegations and a similar controversy in Maharashtra where a senior IPS officer faces allegations of tapping phones to unsettle the ruling dispensation there.

"Maharashtra phone tapping pattern being followed in Goa. Sudin Dhavalikar, Vijay Sardesai, Digambar Kamat, Girish Chodankar's phones are being tapped. Who is the Rashmi Shukla of Goa," Raut tweeted on Saturday, two days after the Congress accused the BJP-led government of using a private agency to tap phones of its leaders.

Shukla is the IAS officer who headed the State Intelligence Department and faces charges of tapping phones of leaders of the coalition government in Maharashtra of which Raut's party is the major partner.
