SFX row: High Court relief to Subhash Velingkar; gets anticipatory bail

SFX row: High Court relief to Subhash Velingkar; gets anticipatory bail

Panaji: The Bombay High Court at Goa today disposed of the anticipatory bail application filed by former Goa RSS Chief Subhash Velingkar in the case of hurting religious sentiments with his controversial comment on St Francis Xavier.

The Court, however, observed that it cannot go into the merit of the case as at this stage can only assess whether Velingkar’s arrest was required in the present circumstances.

The bench of Justice Bharat Deshpande began the hearing in the anticipatory bail plea filed by Velingkar, today morning.

The court disposed of the plea and granted anticipatory bail to Velingkar citing that his arrest is not necessary at this stage, as per the submission made by the Bicholim police.

The court noted that Velingkar has been fully cooperating with the investigation and that there is no immediate need for further detention.

During the proceedings, the Bicholim police informed the court that they had completed Velingkar’s interrogation. The police confirmed that Velingkar appeared before them twice, following a notice issued to him, and provided all necessary information.

Subhash Velingkar’s lawyer, Advocate Pranav Pathak, confirmed that the court has granted anticipatory bail to Velingkar.
