President of Shack Owners Welfare Society (SOWS) Cruz Cardozo on Wednesday informed that Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has assured to consider reducing the fees for beach beds by Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 and waive off the garbage fee.
Cardozo also said the government should act tough on the nuisance created by the hawkers on the beach belt.
“The tourism minister has been very positive to our request. He has assured to resolve the issue on the fee structure within two days. The fee on the beach beds may be reduced by Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 while the garbage fee may be waived off or reduced by Rs 5,000,” Cardozo said.
In the absence of the Director of Tourism, the President of Shack Owners Welfare Society along with his committee and St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar met the Deputy Director of Tourism Rajesh Kale to discuss over fees for shacks.
They later also met Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte.
Cardozo said the hawkers swamped the beach belt and none of the authorities were taking action against them.
He said if any hawkers are found in shacks, then authorities were welcome to cancel the licence of the shack operator.
