The State government has directed Chandrakant Shetkar, who is the Special Land Acquisition Officer (PWD), to hold the charge of Chief Officer of Mapusa Municipal Council in absence of Amitesh Shirvoikar who is on leave.
Shetkar has been asked to hold the charge until Shirvoikar resumes duty.
It may be recalled, the Mapusa civic body has been functioning without the service of a full-time Chief Officer for nearly a month.
Shirvoikar, who first went on leave for 15 days last month, joined duty on May 30 but suddenly went on leave again from June 3 owards, for an unspecified period.
In absence of a full-time chief officer hearings on crucial civic matters were postponed even as residents were forced to turn back.
