Siolim property fraud accused denies charge

PANAJI
Accused of a fraudulent transfer of an ancestral property at Sodiem-Siolim, Reggie Fernandes of Siolim, one of the accused, maintained that there is no illegality committed and the allegations are devoid of merit and aimed at tarnishing his image.

It may be recalled that three individuals lodged a formal complaint before the Mapusa police against two individuals including Reggie accusing them of fraudulently transferring land which, one of the women, claimed belonged to her late father. She also accused the talathi and mamlatdar of working in collusion with the accused.

Reggie, in a written statement, stated that he is the lawful owner of the property bearing Survey number 201/6 at Gaunsawado Sodiem-Siolim, and mentions that he is in possession of necessary documentation and other titles of the property.

The accused also states that he has acquired the title to the said property vide his Deed of Gift dated 1857 and Deed of Sale dated 1918 while adding that he also has the necessary inscription and description, cadastral plans along with a Deed of Succession dated 1981 of his late parents, stating that they had acquired the said properties.

“The complainants -- Maria Priscilla D’Souza, Sabrina Dias and Vineeta D’Souza are unnecessarily creating baseless and misleading claims,” states Reggie, adding that they have not produced any documents before the police to support their complaint.

While the complainants claimed that the police were dragging their feet on the matter, DySP Sandesh Chodankar said they were not cooperating and had been refusing to produce their ownership documents before the police.
