Rajkumar Maithi, one of the masterminds of the land fraud, was on Monday arrested in a second case registered against him by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Goa Police.
Superintendent of Police Nidhin Valsan has confirmed Maithi's involvement in a second land grab case being investigated by his team. His present arrest pertains to a complaint filed by one Neville D'Souza alleging fraud of his property bearing survey number 33/3 in Assagao village. The accused was produced before the Mapusa Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) that remanded him to three days of police custody, on Tuesday.
The accused and co-accused Royson Rodrigues and Sandric Fernandes were arrested on August 19 for another fraud on a property bearing survey number 223/7 in the same village. The trio was however bailed out after completing six days of custodial interrogation. The SIT expects Maithi's re-arrest could lead to further exposure to the massive land fraud in Goa.
The SIT has so far arrested 15 persons in connection with the scam. All the accused including key conspirator Muhammad Suhail and his wife Anjum Shaikh are on conditional bail. Interestingly, all the accused were released soon after their first custody ended. Maithi is the first accused to be re-arrested in the scam.
Around 100 properties have fallen prey to the land fraudsters with the SIT examining several dozen complaints in addition to FIRs registered against the accused.
