PORVORIM
Porvorim police have arrested a young man from Socorro in connection with the molestation of a woman in February. The accused, Reevan Miranda (21), is now facing a second accusation of molesting another woman on August 9.
In the first case, Porvorim Police Inspector Rahul Parab said the victim reported being molested while walking on a public road in February.
The police reviewed footage from nearly 50 CCTV cameras to trace the suspect. They discovered that the accused had stopped using the scooter he allegedly used during the offence. Despite taking precautions to hide his identity, the police identified him based on the victim’s description of his clothing.
On Sunday, Porvorim police arrested Miranda after cross-checking CCTV footage. He has been charged under Section 354 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita. Miranda was produced before a Judicial Magistrate First Class in Mapusa and has been remanded in custody for five days.
The investigation team, led by Porvorim PI Rahul Parab and supervised by SDPO Sudesh Naik and SP North Akshat Kaushal, is continuing its work.
In a new development, another complaint has been filed against Reevan Miranda. A 27-year-old woman reported being molested near Bella Vista on August 9. An FIR has been lodged under Section 74 of the BNS Act, and the case is currently under investigation.
