An inspection drive was conducted in Salcete on August 19 by Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) officials to check for hygienic conditions of manufacturing units of various sweets and 'farsan' manufacturers.
One of the premises located at Pirni, Verna was found operating under unhygienic and unsanitary conditions and was directed to stop manufacturing with immediate effect.
The farsan stored in the said premises was also found without any proper FSSAI label declaration . Further an inspection report was served to them directing them to rectify the deficiencies.
During the search operation in another premises located in Borda, Margao farsan such as chakri, chips, laddoos were found labelled with the manufacturing unit located at Jeppu, Mangalore but was found to be operating with an expired FSSAI license.
All food items were disposed of in the interest of public health, which were worth approximately Rs 16,500. These drives will continue in view of the approaching festive season, as informed by FDA director Shweta Dessai.
