Sudden spike in Covid deaths, eight more succumb to virus

169 new infections recorded; active cases at 2,036

Eight more Covid-related deaths were recorded in the State taking the total Covid victim tally till date to 641.

Of these eight deaths, seven were recorded at Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim while one occurred at ESI Covid Hospital in Margao.

The deceased persons include a 56-year-old woman from Cortalim, a 65-year-old man from Bhatkalin Karnataka, a 90-year-old man from Calangute, an 83-year-old man from Mapusa, a 72-year-old man from Ponda, a 65-year-old man from Assonora, a 48-year-old man from Mapusa and a 55-year-old man from Cortalim.

Of the seven patients who passed away at GMC, two patients expired within 24 hours of arrival at the hospital. While one patient expired within two hours and the other patient expired within eight hours.

Meanwhile, 169 new cases of the infection have been recorded in the State in the last 24 hours raising the total confirmed cases to 44,916. Of these, 2,036 are active cases and 42,239 have recovered. The recovery rate is now posted at 94.03 per cent.
