The Goa State Chapter of ' The Association of Surgeons of India has unanimously & strongly condemned the undignified & utterly disrespectful behaviour of the Health Minister towards the casualty medical officer on duty at Goa Medical College & his arbitrary decision to place him under suspension without giving the concerned doctor a fair chance to explain what exactly happened.
The Association said the manner in which the minister spoke to the medical officer & the way he berated him in the presence of the other casualty staff & bystanders in the casualty are highly condemnable. “This kind of behaviour coming from a person who heads the health department & is responsible for the smooth functioning of the same , is just not acceptable”, the Association said.
The Association added: “It is painfully demoralising for doctors as well as the other staff who give their very best to treat those patients who come to casualty in times of a medical emergency. The minister appears to be sermonising the doctor on how he should talk to the people who come to the casualty , but does this concern & decorum not apply to him when he is dealing with his own staff ?
The Association has demanded an unconditional apology from the Minister for his unruly behaviour towards the medical officer , an immediate revoking of the doctors suspension & an assurance in the public domain that this kind of behaviour will not be repeated.
“We stand in total solidarity with the medical officer & also request the well meaning people of Goa to stand by us in deploring this incident. Your support will motivate us to serve you better & will send a strong message that autocracy shall not prevail under any circumstance”, the Association added.
