Hubballi Divisional Railway Manager of the South Western Railway (SWR) Arvind Malkhede has stated that the division has achieved an originating loading of 2. 810 million tonnes (1,392 wagons per day) in April, registering a growth of 68.9%.
The freight earning by the Division in April was Rs 250.05 crore, which was 77.49% above April 2020.
Malkhede was speaking on Monday evening at a virtual news conference organised by Aneesh Hegde who has recently assumed charge as the chief public relations officer.
“The freight loading includes the inward movement at Mormugao Port which is 85 rakes, including 19 iron ore rakes, 59 steel rakes and 7 granite rakes.”
“The Division utilised idle NMG rakes to transport parcels from Vasco to Khori in Haryana. The Division also utilised 12 idle GS rakes so far for transportation of parcels from Goa and other areas fetching revenue of Rs 98 Lakh. Moreover, loading of iron ore registered a growth of 192%,” Malkhede said.
He informed that majority of parcel services included transportation of MRF tyres, fertilisers and agro products from Zuari Agro, sanitisers and other consumer durables and consumables manufactured in Goa, thus giving a boost to industrial activity in Goa.
“Based on the demand from passengers, additional trains are being run in the Division. In May, 3 additional special trains were run from Vasco to Danapur (Patna),” he said.
He also briefed about the overall business and agriculture in North Karnataka, which he said, was robust as can be seen from the dispatches of bajra, sugar and other commodities from Belagavi and North Karnataka region by train.
He also said that with 42% staff of the Hubballi Divison, including Vasco, having been vaccinated, the SWR is at the forefront of fighting Covid pandemic.
Senior officials Krishna Chaitanya, Aravinda Herle and B Venkata Rao were present at the virtual news conference.
