Three athletes -- a Goan female weightlifter, another Goan rugby player and a Mumbai-Maharashtra rugby player -- suffered injuries or health concerns and are admitted to the Goa Medical College and hospital.
While the female weightlifter had headaches and developed a fever, the Goan rugby player had a seizure and blackout during a match. The third athlete, a rugby player from Mumbai, suffered a leg fracture and has been operated on priority.
Sports Minister Govind Gaude made it a point to break off from his schedule of preparations for the opening ceremony of the National Games at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Fatorda and visit the injured athletes at the GMC.
He met and spoke to each of them.
Later, Gaude told the media that the State is battle ready to tackle any situation arising during the Games and the GMC doctors and ground staff were doing a great job.
Health teams are deployed at all the venues, he added.
Even at the ICU, there is a quota of slots reserved for the athletes in the duration of the Games till November 9, he said.
