With many panchayats failing to convene its ordinary gram sabhas in October, the Tiswadi BDO has now directed the panchayats in the taluka to convene gram sabhas this month.
In an order, BDO Anil Dhumaskar has stated it is mandatory for every village panchayat to convene gram sabha meetings on any Sunday of January, April, July and October as per provisions of section 5(1) of The Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994.
The order further states that sarpanchas have failed to convene the meeting of gram sabha of their respective village panchayats under these provisions.
He has now directed the convening of gram sabha of the respective village panchayats on the dates, time and place specified for each panchayat.
According to the order, the panchayats of Batim, St Estevam, St Andre (Goa Velha), Taleigao, Corlim and St Lawrence (Agassaim) are directed to convene their gram sabha on November 14.
Siridao-Palem, Goltim-Navelim, Azossim-Mandur, Se Old Goa and Sao Matias are ordered to convene their gram sabha on November 21, while Carambolim, Merces, Curca, St Cruz, Cumbarjua and Chodan-Madel are allotted November 28 to convene their gram sabha.
