Panaji: A Karnataka tourist was found dead in a hotel at Calangute while his female companion is critical, in what the police prima-facie state is a case of suicide and attempted suicide.
Information shared by North SP Akshat Kaushal reveals that the deceased identified as Mahesh Suntnure, aged 45 years, a native of Bidar in Karnataka was found hanging from the ceiling fan whereas 25-year-old Sonali, also a native of Bidar, was found with a slit wrist. She has been admitted to the hospital in a critical condition.
“As per preliminary investigations, they had checked in on October 19 and were to check out on Sunday, October 20. However, they extended their stay by one day. Today we received information regarding the suicide,” he said.
Mahesh is survived by his wife and three children, while Sonali has reportedly been married for the last four years. “Police are verifying and probing all angles,” Kaushal said.
