Touristic Goa needs marina, open to get it in Calangute: Lobo

Batting for the marina project in the interest of tourism, Ports Minister Michael Lobo said if people did not want the marina at Nauxi it could be shifted to Calangute and identified at least four places in the constituency to set up the project. 

“There are at least four sites in Calangute constituency where the marina could be set up. If the local fishermen and the panchayat are ready, then we can set it up at any of the four sites in Calangute,” Lobo said.
He stressed upon the importance of marinas for tourism as it will bring high-end tourists in the State.
“If we want tourism to flourish in the State, then a marina is required in Goa. A marina is not a permanent jetty. It’s just a temporary setup. It’s not going to degrade the environment. It will bring in high-end tourists in the State,” he said and added, “It will also bring revenue to the State.”
He said he believed that the marina should be shifted from Nauxi as the local fishermen in the area did not want it there.
“It should be shifted. It need not be in my constituency only. It can be shifted anywhere in the State. But I welcome it in my constituency. If we can identify the right place and the fishermen and the local panchayat agree to it,” he said.
He said people should stop opposing every project in the State.
