Trial in power rebate scam hits roadblock again

MARGAO
Trial in the power rebate scam case suffered a roadblock again after the summons issued to the witnesses by the South Goa Sessions Court returned unserved.

When the case allegedly involving former Power Minister Mauvin Godinho came up for hearing before Sessions Judge Irshad Agha on Friday, submission was made before the Court that summons issued to the eight witnesses returned unserved. The Public prosecutor made an oral submission that the witnesses, who were residing in the Government Quarters had retired and left the place.

A submission was made before the Judge that letters have been issued to the Electricity Department to provide the address of residence of the witnesses and the response of the Electricity Department is awaited.

Given the situation, a letter will be issued to the Directorate of Accounts to furnish the addresses of the witnesses as per the pension papers. It was requested to issue fresh summons to the witnesses.

The matter is adjourned for trial on February 23.
