Cyber Crime police have apprehended two foreign nationals in Delhi in connection with a Rs 37 lakh matrimonial website cheating racket.
The accused are Cameroon national Tsoupa Sébastien and Ivory Coast national Senehuoun Franck who were apprehended in Delhi by a team led PSI Devendra Pingle Cyber Crime and South Delhi Police PI PK Jha.
In the complaint, the victim said that one person had lured her by proposing marriage to her through a fake profile on website christianmatrimony.com. Thereafter, the accused expressed his wish to send her expensive gifts from a foreign country where he claimed to be working as a doctor. Thereafter, under the pretext of custom clearances for the foreign gifts, the accused defrauded the victim of Rs 37 lakh.
As soon as the victim realised that she had been duped, she submitted her complaint and the Cyber Crime police initiated their investigation. The investigation revealed that the crime had been perpetrated by an organised set of criminals with fake virtual identities.
Meticulous investigation resulted in the identification of mainly two foreign nationals based in Delhi who were orchestrating the cheating.
Several mobile phones and SIM cards issued on fake identities have been seized from the possession of the two accused along with the database of 650 victims. Further investigation is in progress.
