Burglars broke into two shops and decamped with cash of Rs 75,000, while also damaging 3 two-wheelers and a car and attempting to burgle a post office in Tivim in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to reports, the incident took place between 2 am and 5 am, when the burglars broke open the shutters of the Vishwakarma General Store owned by Mithila Chari on the ground floor of a building in Tivim and the Ansh Liquor Store owned by Nilesh Badache next door. They stole cash of Rs 12,000 and Rs 63,000 from the general store and liquor store respectively. The burglars also drank a bottle of beer at the liquor store.
The burglars then damaged three two-wheelers on the ground floor of a nearby building under construction and damaged a car parked in the yard of a house.
The burglars then stole a motorcycle parked next to the road and took it some distance away.
They later broke into the post office located around 1 km away and ransacked the cupboards.
The burglars tried to break open the safe and when their efforts failed, they tried to lift it, but were unable to do so.
The burglaries came to light on Thursday morning and a Colvale police team went to the site to conduct investigations. The faces of the two burglars have been captured by CCTV cameras.
Chari, Badache and post office officials later filed a police complaint in the matter.
Colvale police has registered a case against unknown persons and is investigating the case under the supervision of Police Inspector Sanjit Kandolkar.
