Umbrella scheme for local industries to be revamped

PANAJI

Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho on Wednesday held a crucial meeting to revamp the Umbrella Scheme for local industries, following poor response to the scheme, which was introduced way back in 2017.

Goa State Incentives to Encourage Investments Scheme that comprises seven sub-schemes, has been availed by only 38 Goan MSMEs so far.  The government is now eyeing encouraging women-driven enterprises, particularly self-help groups, through the scheme.

According to the official statement, Godinho chaired a crucial meeting to review and refine the draft proposal of the revamped Umbrella scheme, a comprehensive framework designed to streamline and amplify support for Goa’s industries and MSMEs.

“The meeting focused on aligning the scheme’s objectives with current policy priorities and ensuring effective implementation strategies,” it said.

The umbrella scheme to incentivise industry is being revised under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) project, for which Goa has been sanctioned Rs 61.6 crore by the Union ministry.
