Benaulim witnessed an uproar on Saturday after irate locals confronted an owner after his security men disposed of his waste in the paddy fields at Pedda.
It’s another matter the Panchayat later levied a fine on the erring owner, but not before the incident nearly ended up in a law and order situation.
This is not the first time that Pedda has become a favourite destination for waste disposal for hotels, restaurants and even individuals. After the locals caught the security men in the act of garbage dumping, the owner was told to clear the entire garbage dumped along the Pedda road.
Confrontation ensued between the locals and the owner, after the former insisted the owner personally collect the waste as a punishment, a demand flatly refused by the latter, who came to the site with a posse of Colva police.
Things nearly went out of control after an angry villager directed his ire at the owner, prompting the police to intervene to stop the situation going out of control.
