Former RSS Goa Chief Subhash Velingkar was questioned for a second consecutive day on Friday by Bicholim police, who stated that he has been co-operating with their investigation.
Velingkar was grilled for nearly three and a half hours, as against the brief 20-minute session the day before (Thursday), which is when he made his first appearance after the registration of the FIR and protection granted by the High Court of Bombay at Goa.
“I am fully cooperating with the police. I have provided them with all the information they requested,” Velingkar told reporters after the second round of questioning.
When asked to comment on his controversial remarks about the relics of St Francis Xavier, Velingkar declined citing the ongoing legal process.
“The matter is sub judice. I will not comment further. If there is any requirement before the hearing on October 15, I will comply. If called again, I will attend,” he responded.
Police sources confirmed to The Goan that Velingkar has been cooperative since receiving the High Court's relief to anticipatory bail application. While no decision has been made to summon him again during the festival weekend, the investigation will continue. “He is cooperating with us and for now, we do not need to call him back unless necessary,” the police source revealed.
It is, however, learnt that Velingkar was asked about the source of his controversial statement and motive, if any.
Velingkar had moved the High Court on Wednesday seeking an urgent hearing into his anticipatory bail application. When the matter came up for admission on Thursday morning, the Bench of Justice Bharat Deshpande asked him to appear at 5 pm as the Hindu leader assured the Court to cooperate with the investigation provided he was not arrested.
While Velingkar refrained from speaking to the media on day one of his interrogation, on Friday, he claimed he had been cooperating with the police.
