Well past a month into the water crisis in the Voddlem Bhat and Borbhat localities of Taleigao village, it continues to be a painful wait for normalcy to return into the lives of people living in the several hundred households in these areas.
PWD officials, who have been on their toes trying to track down the source of contamination with little success were hopeful that supply would be restored this weekend but until Saturday evening, residents said they are yet to get supply.
A top official involved with the work said an alternative pipeline has been laid and the process of testing it is currently on.
"Individual connections will be shifted to the alternate pipeline once the testing process is completed and then water will be released, hopefully by Sunday," the official said.
Residents in these areas meanwhile are being serviced for nearly four weeks with tanker supply by the PWD but complaints are aplenty that it is cumbersome and inadequate.
"Many are relying on packaged water for drinking and cooking purposes," Victoria Raposo who lives in the area told The Goan.
Since mid-April, residents of these two localities were cut off from the water supply system after complaints poured in of sewage-contaminated water flowing through their taps.
The Goan had reported that tests conducted by the PWD had confirmed the presence of "E coli" bacteria, which led to the department islanding the pipeline network of the area and shutting off supply.
Pits had been dug on roads in several locations of these two wards to carry out the work of laying a new pipeline while also simultaneously identifying the source of contamination.
