State AAP Convenor and Mapusa candidate, Rahul Mhambre on Wednesday said that Mapusa Urban Bank was the soul of the business community in Mapusa and assured to come up with a plan to revive the bank which has since been liquidated.
Mhambre also said that the government and the local MLA did nothing to save the bank.
“The Mapusa Urban Bank was started with the aim to help the business men in Mapusa market to set up their businesses or help them flourish. Several business men had started their enterprise by borrowing loans from this bank. More than a year back the bank has been liquidated. My wish is to revive the bank. I have a plan to do it,” Mhambre said.
The State AAP convenor was addressing the media in the party’s election office in Mapusa.
Continuing, Mhambre said Mapusa MLA, Joshua D’Souza neglected the issue and failed to do justice to the account holders and the staff. He said former minister Michael Lobo who was part of the government also did not do anything to save the bank.
“The bank is named after the Mapusa town. Besides helping several business men from Mapusa market the bank had established a connect with the people of Mapusa. The local MLA should have worked to see that the bank was not shut down,” Mhambre said.
The Mapusa Urban Cooperative bank was started in 1966 and was liquidated in 2019.
