MARGAO: Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has dashed a letter to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, saying the State government has faltered in making the vaccine available to the people of Goa particularly in the 18 + group.
“It pains me to state that our government has run away from its earlier declared social objective which was to provide free vaccination to everyone in Goa including the 18-44 age group. The callous approach on the part of our State government has left the space wide open for hospitals in the private sector to exploit Goans,” he said in his letter.
The Curtorim MLA also questioned the vaccination exercise by a private hospital by charging an exorbitant rate.
“The Goa government must try to emulate the other States of India which have already placed orders for Covid-19 vaccine and have also declared their intention to vaccinate their people free of cost. For instance, the governments of Maharashtra, Kerala and Delhi have declared to provide free Covid-19 vaccines to all those above 18 years of age,” he said, while requesting the Chief Minister not to allow hospitals in the private sector to exploit Goans, who are already reeling under the economic and social impact of the aforesaid pandemic since March 2020.
