A fishing trip by a man and his son from Shelim in Loliem-Polem came to a tragic end when the 61-year-old man was stung to death by bees at a remote beach shore in Loliem-Polem on Sunday evening.
The son, a policeman by profession, was also stung by the bees but managed to escape by jumping into the sea.
According to sources, the incident took place as Praveen Naik and his son were reportedly angling on the rocky seashore at Unnick, a remote cove in Loliem-Polem village.
Both were suddenly attacked by a swarm of bees. The son jumped into the sea to escape a further attack.
Naik was stung badly all over his body and was late in jumping into the sea. He breathed his last a short while later.
According to sources, the duo had reportedly lit a fire to cook the fish and the smoke is believed to have disturbed a honey comb, causing the bees to attack them.
As soon as residents were alerted, they notified the Coastal Police, who in turn, sought the assistance of the Coast Guard and the body was brought from the remote Unnick locality by boat to Maxem.
The son, who sustained some bee stings, has been admitted at the Canacona Community Health Centre for treatment.
The necessary formalities were completed and the body was cremated on Monday, informed sources.
