The Chicalim Sub District hospital on Monday began operations as a 30-bedded Covid Hospital, with around 10 patients admitted in the hospital on the first day.

When contacted, Chicalim SDH Health Officer and Medical Dr Anil Umraskar said the hospital has 60 beds, of which 30 beds would be used for the Covid hospital.

"The hospital has begun admitting and treating Covid patients from Monday. We have admitted ten patients as of now and we are initially admitting patients with mild symptoms and who need oxygen or other medications.”

“The Government has provided us with oxygen supply and required medications. We will still increase the required stock of medicines and oxygen to cater to patients,” said Dr Umraskar.

He said the OPD would continue for patients with other ailments.

“While we will check and treat patients with other ailments, we will not admit them in the hospital. Such patients will be sent to Hospicio hospital because the mixing of patients with other ailments and Covid patients admitted in the hospital could pose a risk," said Dr Umraskar.
