South Goa District Superintendent of Police, Sunita Sawant on Monday said the police have mobilised in strength at both Canacona and Margao to ensure law and order and to ensure there is no threat to the peace and tranquillity.
SP Sawant said the police have initiated measures to maintain communal harmony and that additional police reinforcements have been deployed at both Canacona and Cuncolim police stations as a precautionary measure.
The SP, South made the comments after a delegation of the Goa Congress minority department called on her to submit a memorandum in view of the provocative speeches made by certain elements at Canacona directed against the Muslim community.
SP Sawant told the media that the police at Canacona and Cuncolim have initiated investigations based on the complaints received from the parties.
“We are doing investigations. Based on the outcome, the police will initiate further action. We will not allow any law and order situation to occur. The police will maintain peace and communal harmony,” she said.
The district police chief said the Sub-divisional Police Officer, Canacona has been provided with police reinforcement. “We have also requisitioned IRB staff which has been deployed in Canacona and Cuncolim,” she said.
