Admitting that the Pernem Municipal Council (PMC) has to largely depend on government funds, Deputy Chief Minister Babu Ajgaonkar has assured to launch work on a number of projects in Pernem town, which would help generate revenue for the PMC.
Addressing a news conference in the PMC, Ajgaonkar said the foundation stone for the new PMC building at a cost of Rs 11 cr would be laid within the next 10 days.
“Besides, priority will also be given to the market complex in order to increase the revenue for the PMC," said Ajgaonkar.
Responding to a query about the halt in beautification work from the Malpe junction to Pernem, Ajgaonkar assured that work would resume soon.
"All labourers at the project had been sent to work on the high court building in Porvorim. The contractor has brought them back and the work will begin soon," he said.
To another query on the lack of facilities at Rs 1 crore public crematorium, Ajgaonkar replied: "My first priority on becoming MLA was to build a common crematorium for all communities. Those facilities which are lacking will be made available.”
The deputy chief minister appealed to all 10 newly elected councillors to work in coordination with the State government.
Newly elected PMC Chairperson Usha Nagvekar assured that all councillors would work for the development of Pernem town and invited people to put forth constructive suggestions to the council.
Others present during the news conference included PMC Vice Chairperson Manoj Harmalkar, councillors Ashwini Palienkar, Rakhi Kashalkar, Trupti Sawal Desai, Vishakha Gadekar, Siddhesh Pednekar, Madhav Sinai Desai, Shivram Tukoji, Vishnu Salgaonkar, Deputy Collector Ravishankar Nipanikar and Chief Officer Sandeep Gaude.
