Expressing serious concern over dearth of industry ready workforce in Goa, the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday announced to undertake necessary modifications in the academic syllabus to make the students industry ready.
At the same time, Sawant lamented the fact about ignorance of Goan youths, especially students, to the competitive exams like GPSC and UPSC.
Speaking at the inauguration of Industry-Academia Connect event at Sankhali, Sawant said that it is sad to see dearth of industry ready workforces in pharma, tourism, IT, service industries and other job oriented sectors.
"We don't have the required or trained workforce. It is very unfortunate. Government is ready to help. We are ready to modify our school or college syllabus to make students passing out from academic institutions in the state industry ready," he said.
He asked students to acquaint themselves with skill sets which will make them employable.
Meanwhile, the first edition of ‘Converge 2024’ - Shiksha-Udyojak Sangam, a Industry - Academia connect is organized by the Centralized Training Internship and Placement (TIP) cell of Directorate of Higher Education in association with seven Government Colleges of Arts, Science and Commerce from Sanquelim, Quepem, Pernem, Margao-Borda, Khandola, Music and Home Science college. This Industry-Academia collabration which began on Monday will end on January 20.
The conference was inaugurated at the Government college of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim by Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant with the Secretary Education, Prasad Lolayekar, IAS as the Guest of Honour. Director DHE, Bhushan Savoikar and other guests consisting of Industry personnel such as Dr Mani Madhukar, IBM Skillbuild India leader, corporate heads and founders from Industries, academicians, principals, TIP coordinators, Institution Innovation cell (IIC) convenors, college faculty and students will be present.
The conference will consist of 60 + sessions from Industry experts and professonals, panel discussions, project exhibits, success stories by entrepreneurs and Start ups, career guidance sessions, management games by faculty and students. Around over 5000 students will participate from all these colleges. The event is powered by IBM India Pvt. Ltd with REACHA as its implemenation partner.
