Stating that he would raise the issue of land scams in Porvorim constituency during the upcoming assembly session, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has served a 48-hour deadline for police to take cognisance of a complaint filed by investors duped in a recent land scam.
He was responding to complaints by aggrieved investors, who were duped of an estimated Rs 2 crores by a person who offered to sell them plots at Socorro.
They claimed that although six persons had lodged a police complaint in the matter over 15 days ago, Porvorim police was yet to register an FIR against the accused and take action in the case.
Speaking to The Goan, one of the investors said he had even approached Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at his residence in Bicholim taluka to appraise him of the matter.
“The chief minister reportedly directed the Porvorim police inspector to register the FIR,” said the investor.
Angered over inaction by authorities in the matter, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said the land scam was giving a bad name to the Porvorim constituency.
“Complaints were filed with the deputy collector, but authorities failed to take action within a time frame. The Porvorim police appear to be colluding with the accused, going by their refusal to register cases against the accused,” said Khaunte.
“Action must be initiated in the land scam within 48 hours and I will also raise the issue during the upcoming assembly session. I will also demand action against the police on the floor of the House. My office is also in the process to initiate legal action in this matter,” he added.
The Porvorim MLA alleged that the State government appeared to be shielding the accused involved in the land scam at Porvorim.
“During my tenure as revenue minister, I had begun the process to take action against those involved in such land scams. Now, the BJP has got a new washing machine. We have seen that those booked in such cases or involved in scams are put in the BJP washing machine and are turned into party workers or given ministerial berths,” alleged Khaunte.
