Winter Assembly session: Appropriation bill for Rs 1039.42 crore in supplementary demands passed

PANAJI
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant dismissed the Opposition's allegation that the government was taking huge loans.

He said open market borrowing was permitted up to Rs 4,200 crore by law in the current financial year but only Rs 1,050 crore has been borrowed so far.

Sawant was responding to the debate and criticism from the Opposition on the Appropriation Bill pertaining to supplementary demands of Rs 1,039.42 crore for the current fiscal. He said an additional Rs 1,185 crore was received from the Centre.

The House later passed the Appropriation Bill approving government expenditure of Rs.1039.42 crore over and above budget provisions already passed earlier in the year.

Earlier, Opposition MLAs criticised the government for bringing in supplementary demands and resorting to indiscriminate borrowing and imprudent fiscal decisions.
