A woman and her child were injured on Thursday morning when a boulder came rolling down and struck their two-wheeler during construction of a protective wall on private land in Moira.
The incident occurred at 11 am when Smriti Kerkar and her 9-year-old son were returning home from school.
Near the Moira bridge, a villa is being constructed on private land by the roadside and a constructor has started digging work with the help of a JCB. The construction site has been covered by metal sheets.
As work was in progress, a boulder came rolling down and reached the road through a hole in the metal sheets.
The boulder struck the two-wheeler which was passing by and Smriti Kerkar lost control of the two-wheeler. She and her son fell off the bike and sustained minor injuries.
When locals gathered and confronted workers at the site, they fled away. The injured were taken to the Aldona Primary Health Centre in a private vehicle and received treatment, before being sent home.
Mapusa Police Hawaldar Keshav Naik conducted the panchanama and the police have registered this incident as an accident.
