In a tragic incident, a 56-year old woman from Cota-Fatorpa Florina D’Souza reportedly drowned while she was heading into the fields at Naqueri Betul on Wednesday morning.

Cuncolim police station in-charge, PI Tukaram Chawan informed that Florina along with another woman Rosalina Simoes, a resident of Naqueri, were heading to the fields when they were washed away while crossing a water body.

PI Chawan informed that while Rosalina managed to come out of the water after she caught hold of a tree branch, Florina was washed away by the water current.

Services of the Fire brigade were requisitioned in the rescue mission. The fire brigade deployed a rescue boat in the evening, but Rosalina could not be traced till late evening.

PI Chawan informed that divers are expected to join the rescue mission on Thursday morning.

MAPUSA The heavy rain witnessed on Wednesday is expected to wipe off the seasonal deficit even as the State recorded an average of 105.7 mm rainfall.South Goa received the highest rainfall with 124.5 mm recording a surplus of 6 percent for the season while North Goa received 84.3 mm with seasonal deficit of 14.8 percent.Since June 1, the State has so far recorded 1054.8 mm rainfall compared to the normal count of 1098 mm, reducing the deficit to 3.9 percent.In the last 24…
