A senior leader of a banned insurgent group was arrested in Goa hours after entering the State, following a coordinated operation between the Goa Police’s Crime Branch and Manipur Police based on prior intelligence inputs, officials said.
Police officials stated Nongthongbam Ingo, also known as Krishna and Lal, a self-styled lieutenant colonel of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA), an organisation banned by the Government of India, was detained based on a tip-off. He is described as a “most wanted” accused in a long-pending case in Manipur.
“Ingo arrived in Goa by train on June 16 and later travelled to Cuncolim in South Goa, where he stayed at a relative’s residence. Acting on specific intelligence by Manipur Police, the Crime Branch (Goa) tracked and detained him shortly after his arrival,” the police said.
Officials said the operation was carried out after verifying inputs regarding his movement into the State. “All legal formalities were completed before he was handed over to a Manipur Police team that reached the State. He was formally arrested in connection with a case registered at Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district. He was later flown to Manipur under tight security arrangements for further investigation,” sources added.
As per reports, Ingo was evading arrest for nearly two decades and was linked to the banned organisation People’s Liberation Army/Revolutionary People’s Front (PLA/RPF). The case against him in Manipur involves serious criminal charges.
