It may be a quirky twist to Bicholim’s fate.
For more than a decade the constituency has been representedby MLAs who are consigned to the opposition benches in the State assembly.
For a decade former MLA, Rajesh Patnekar then with BJPrepresented Bicholim constituency but was relegated to the ranks of theopposition for two terms. This time too MLA, Naresh Sawal who was elected as anindependent meets the same fate.
Even as most towns and villages in the State struggle tomanage their garbage, Bicholim is one of those few who have managed to takecare of its garbage problem. The town has a proper garbage disposal plant totreat its waste.
But that’s where the town’s “shinning” story ends. The townhasn’t seen any big ticket projects and lacks basic facilities. The residentshave to bear with irregular water supply and power fluctuations.
“For the last 15 years Bicholim has seen no developmentwhatsoever either in terms of providing better facilities or new projects,”Naresh Sawal, the Bicholim legislator said. But an optimist Sawal wasn’t disappointed. He said: Since nothing wasdone there is wide scope for me to work and develop my constituency. I have todeliver”.
Bad condition of major roads in the constituency and thepitiable condition of the bus stand also needs urgent attention. A long pendingdemand is the constitution of a traffic cell which would monitor trafficarrangements in the city.
“I want to primarily solve the major problem of irregularwater supply for which I have proposed 2 MLD water treatment plant at Amthanedam. Providing good roads and better electricity supply is also uppermost on mymind,” Sawal said.
Expressing his unhappiness with the functioning of theBJP-led government, Sawal said: “I am not happy with the government, as tillnow nothing has been done in my constituency. I’m going to talk to the chiefminister on developmental issues, plaguing the town”.
“Major projects like upgradation of primary health centre,sports complex, Kala Bhavan, bus stand and market would be taken up in theconstituency,” Sawal added.
