Questioning the government’s hurry toset up the Mopa airport, Independent MLA, Vijai Sardessai sought clarification fromthe State on recommendations made in the report submitted by the International Civil Aviation Organisation in 2007.
Speaking during an amendment motion tothe Governor’s speech, on the floor of House, the Fatorda MLA raised three important recommendations of the ICAO report“ highway network to be in place before construction of the airport,comprehensive study report of Mopa airport and the study on viability of twoairports in Goa.
Referring to ChiefMinister, Manohar Parrikar, he said: “Man of action is now a man in hurry.” Thechief minister should first resolve parking issue at the Dabolim airport, headded.
Clarifying his stand on the formation of‘Goenkar’ he said that the outfit was not politically motivated and definitelynot to create a North-South divide in Goa.
He read out a newspaper interview oflate environment minister, Mathany Saldanha saying that Saldanha was against Mopaairport. He further disclosed that the land earmarked for Mopa was full ofbauxite reserve.
