The state government should take over all mining leases inGoa and start legal mining immediately, the Communist Party of India (M) said onWednesday.
The government should also form the Goa Mineral DevelopmentCouncil on the lines of the National Mineral Development Corporation andoperate all the mining leases thought the corporation, the CPI (Marxist) demandedat the protest rally held in Panjim, on Wednesday.
Addressing around 500 odd people at the public meet heldafter the rally the central CPI (Marxist) leader Tapan Singh said “The closureof mining in the state has affected [a] large number of people, but despitethis the state has failed to provide any financial assistance to thoseaffected.”
“The public should come together and put pressure on thegovernment to start legal mining, which is the backbone of Goa’s economy,” headded.
“This is just the beginning of the protest but if things arenot resolved then we will intensify the agitation and fight till we achievesuccess,” he asserted.
