The Goan: Why is the name of your son, Roy Naik, featuringso many times in the police-politician drug dealer nexus case?
Ravi Naik: My son is innocent. He is not involved in anydrug nexus. All this is politically motivated, I will say even some of theCongressmen were also involved during my tenure as Home Minister to involveRoy’s name in the case. You see, I am the only Congressman who has no case orallegation of any kind against me. That is why they are trying to implicate meby maligning my son in some way or the other.
TG: There have been official complaints that you influencedpolice to pressurise the petitioner Kashinath Shetye to remove Roy’s name fromthe complaint?
RN: I have not sent anybody anywhere. I never interfered inpolicing anytime. In fact I had given them a free hand to curb drug activitiesin the state. It was I who had stopped the moonlight and rave parties in Goa.
TG: But then Police FIRs, HC orders have also recorded thatyou have used officers from the crime branch to influence Shetye?
RN: I have not sent anyone. There was no need me to sendsomeone because I know the Roy that everybody is talking about is not my son.
TG: So who is that Roy?
RN: There are many Roys in Goa. You tell me why should thatRoy be my son? Let the CBI investigate the matter. The truth will come out. Ihave given this case to CBI for investigation.
TG: You didn’t hand it to the CBI. In fact, you were in amood not to hand it over, why? It was High Court that forced the stategovernment to hand over the case.
RN: I have given it, I really can’t remember. As per mymemory it’s me.
TG: Even Lucky Farmhouse’s video has Atala saying that Roywas visiting him…
RN: (Pulls out a couple of statements recorded by Goa Policeof Roy D’Souza of Curlies and Roy Fernandes, former Secretary of FatimaD’Sa where these Roys talk of meetingAtala and Lucky). So we have these Roys too?
TG: Even PSI Gudlar, in his statement, had mentioned thatRoy has been the influence for his posting in ANC. Was your son running mydepartment?
RN: Who is Gudlar? I don’t remember coming across this name.Roy never interfered in my department or work. Even Ritesh, my second son,never did.
TG: Did Roy visit shacks in North Goa?
RN: He is a young man. He does hang around with his friendsin such places.
TG: Did he tell you of the people that he met or whom he metthere?
RN: He is a grown up boy. He is capable of taking care ofhimself. I don’t interfere in his personal life.
