In an initiative to respond to women victims in distressacross the state, the state police department has re-launched a 1091 womenhelpline, which was non functional over the last few years. The Department hasasserted that jurisdiction limit will not prevent a police station fromresponding to a distress call in the jurisdiction of another police station.
Addressing media persons in Panjim on Monday, superintendentof police for crime division, Dr. Omprakash Mishra said that the women policestations in Margao and Panjim would be strengthened with dedicated policeinspectors and sub inspectors with proper redistribution of women personnel. Heemphasised that the police department would not limit a police station to itsjurisdiction while responding to a distress call from a woman.
Dr. Mishra further said that district superintendent,sub-divisional police officers and police inspectors would be available on adaily basis to hear public grievances from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm on working days.
