The decennial Exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier, the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and the upcoming festive season will attract droves of local and foreign tourists. Obviously these visitors will be using their mobile phones and laptops during their stay in the state. Not only will the roads be congested with traffic, WiFi towers can also become overloaded when too many devices share the same WiFi channels. When the network's capacity to handle data traffic is exceeded it results in congestion. This can lead to slow internet speeds, clogged connections, and poor performance. The cell tower equipment has a limit as to how many frequencies they can use for each band. As more people show up with their cell phones, as will be the situation at Old Goa during the exposition, then the situation gets worse because their cell phones throw out more signals which now cannot be serviced because the tower is overwhelmed with service requests. Cell towers have to be upgraded especially at places where more crowds are expected to converge at a given point of time.
