The Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and the Supreme Court must be complimented for this bold initiative in facilitating deaf-mute lawyers argue cases in sign language. One needs to be in their shoes to understand what it means to be deaf-mute. And, Chandrachud sure understands the challenges faced by deaf-mute people, being an adoptive father of two differently-abled girls. Having deaf-mute siblings myself, I too understand how difficult life really is for them. But they are certainly gifted, having talents which normal people would lack. The deaf-mute lawyer, Sara Sunny herself, must be congratulated for having taken up law, as a profession which hardly any of the deaf-mute would consider. This first ever sign language court case should serve as an inspiration and hope to other such handicapped people in the country. Kudos to Chandrachud and the Supreme Court for making seemingly impossible things possible.
