In a vast nation like India to simultaneously hold both elections of the States and the Centre at one time will require a herculean effort. A panel headed by former president Ram Nath Kovind along with 8 members are exploring ways of constituting 'One nation One election' policy. If these recommendations are executed the cost of holding elections simultaneously will drastically be reduced. Administrative procedures and deployment of para military forces will cost much less as compared to the old ways of polling. The central politics will hold sway over regional politics to tilt the elections favouring the stronger national parties, in this format. Parliamentary processes need to be followed at countless polling booths and at every block level to ascertain eligible names of voters for double elections,which won't be easy. Election commission will have a gigantic overload of work with servicing, handling, maintenance of EVMs to provide a smooth run on the election setup in various states at one time. Rigging could play in and the process would be compromised. Both the prominent as well as regional parties would stand to lose if the processes are not completed in time-bound manner.
